Stokes County in the Crosshairs of Land Developers
Hi, I am R.A. Reaves, several years ago I moved to Stokes county because I wanted to live somewhere that values heritage, tradition and rural living.
I grew up in a rural county just like Stokes until developers arrived with big promises and even bogger consequences. I watched as the fields and pastures I played in were paved over to make way for shopping malls and subdivisions, I saw fishing holes and wells run dry, and neighbors and friends forced out by rising property taxes and encroaching commercial development.
I am running for Stokes County Commisioner because I know what happens when land developers show up, and I know how the story ends. Today those shopping malls that swallowed up our fields and farm land sit empty and abandoned, those subdivisions that promised increased tax revenue are ghettos and sprawl, and the land developers have moved on to pour concrete over yet another part of this great country. Maybe in a field or pasture near you.
